Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who are drawn to a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, striking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to execute Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could assist the group access locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Viewers can expect learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
