Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then found numerous other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report early analysis show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.

"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.

A senior official commented the attack rendered him stunned and required to be solved rapidly.

"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
